D Smoke (formerly Supa Good D Smoke) is an American educator turned rapper from Inglewood, California. He began making waves in the hip-hop world after winning season 1 of Netflix’s competition series ‘Rhythm + Flow.’ D Smoke raps in both English and Spanish. Following his big win, he released his debut EP Inglewood High (2019). His discography also includes singles “Last Supper”, “Let Migo” and “You Aint Ready” with his brother SiR.

D Smoke was born Daniel Anthony Farris on October 17, 1985. He grew up in Inglewood, California. His baseball coach dad was locked up on drug-related charges for a portion of his childhood. Prior to Inglewood High School, D Smoke attended a Latino middle school where all his friends spoke Spanish. He also picked up on the Spanish language by vacationing in Mexico with his family. D Smoke continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. He majored in Spanish literature. After graduating he embarked on a career as an educator. He taught (Spanish, music theory) and mentored students at his alma mater Inglewood High School. He would later work with the High School For Recording Arts in Los Angeles.

As for his musical inspirations, D Smoke’s mother is a singer and piano instructor. His brother, SiR, is an R&B artist who’s currently signed to Kendrick Lamar‘s TDE label. D Smoke’s album, Producer of the Year, was released in May 2006. The following year he and his other brother, Davion Farris, co-wrote the single “Never” for singer Jaheim. The track rose to #12 on the Billboard charts and won an ASCAP Award. D Smoke has also written songs for acts like Ginuwine and the Pussycat Dolls.

D Smoke has performed alongside his brothers as a member of the Woodworks. They’ve opened for big names like Kendrick Lamar. He’s also a co-founder of the indie label ‘Woodworks Records.’ In 2015, D Smoke appeared on the single “You Ain’t Ready” from SiR’s album Seven Sundays (2015). Guest appearances were made by DJ Khaled, Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla Sign and few other celebrity guest judges. D Smoke performed his original song “Last Supper” (prod. by Sounwave) during the season finale. His victory earned him a cash prize and a slot on Spotify’s RapCaviar Live concert series. The runner-ups were Flawless Real Talk (2nd), Londynn B (3rd) and TrOyMaN (4th).

D Smoke’s debut EP, Inglewood High, was released in October 2019. It peaked at #10 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hip Album chart. Aside from the titular single, the project includes songs like “On Paper”, “Honey Jack” and “Lil’ Red.” It featured guest appearances from Sha’Leah Nikole, Tommy Sketch, and Tiffany Gouche (his cousin). Inglewood High boasted production from J.LBS, Mizz Beats, My Guy Mars, and Woah Beast. D Smoke dropped the official video for his “Let Migo” single on October 27, 2019. It racked up more than 600K+ views within the first 3 weeks.
