Babyface is an American Grammy Award winning musician, songwriter, and producer. He was born Kenneth Brian Edmonds on April 10, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His father, Marvin, died from cancer in 1972, and his mother, Barbara, passed away in 2012. He has five siblings, Marvin Jr., Melvin, Michael, Kevin and Derek.. Babyface attended North Central High School in his hometown.

CAREER
Babyface started out playing the guitar and keyboards as a teenager. He performed locally with the band Manchild and also with funk performer, Bootsy Collins. Babyface played keyboards for the R&B band, the Deele, from 1981 to 1988. He also found success working alongside fellow entertainer L.A. Reid. The two wrote and produced for acts like Bobby Brown, Paula Abdul and Karyn White. Babyface’s debut studio album, Lovers, was released in 1986. His second album, Tender Lover, was released in July 1989 to commercial success. It peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200 and featured the singles “It’s No Crime”, “Whip Appeal”, and “My Kinda Girl”. Other solo albums include For the Cool in You (1993), The Day (1996), and Face 2 Face (2001).

Babyface and Reid co-founded LaFace Records in 1989. They represented artists like Toni Braxton, Usher, OutKast, Pink, and the group TLC. As a songwriter, Babyface is known for his work with Boyz II Men, Madonna, and Tevin Campbell. He worked closely with R&B singer Ashanti and her fourth album The Declaration (2008). Babyface has won a total of 11 Grammy Awards throughout his career. He won his first Grammy in 1992 for ‘Best Rhythm & Blues Song’ for the single “End of the Road”. His most recent Grammy was for the album ‘Love, Marriage & Divorce’ with Toni Braxton.

Aside from music, Babyface is well known for his work in the film industry. His film productions include Soul Food (1997) with Vanessa Williams, and Josie and the Pussycats (2001) with Rachael Leigh Cook.
